Class Ages: 10+
Notes: We recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. If possible, cut your nails short for the session; it makes working with clay easier!
Never done pottery or touched clay in your life!? No worries we got you! This 4 class is perfect for beginners or intermediate potters. Over 4 classes, you will learn basic throwing techniques and will be guided through the process of how to create work on the wheel from start to finish. If you are brand new to clay and still struggle with centering or throwing a cylinder, this class is for you! Registration includes tools, 25 lbs of clay, glaze, and firing.
Week 1: Making Cylinders
Week 2: Trimming / Surface Treatment / Handling
Week 3: Continuation of Making and Trimming
Week 4: Glazing
Notes: The Arts for Lawrence Visual Arts Center is located on the Fort Ben Cultural Campus. Off of 56th Street, you will turn North on Post Road. When you get to the stop sign on Otis, continue North and it's the second building on your left. It's a 2-story brick building with teal doors. The class is in the basement. Elevator accessibility is available.
The AFL Ceramics studio equipment, including eight pottery wheels and a kiln, is generously supported by the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation Inc.
